Victoria. Connecting People Through Smart Tech

01.

Transitioning to Virtual Connections

Victoria (Let’s Day Out) was originally developed as a platform to help people meet new individuals and build relationships based on shared interests. Using advanced artificial intelligence (AI), the app aimed to match users with others who aligned with their hobbies, values, and personality traits, making it easier for people to connect in meaningful ways.

However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, in-person interactions became impossible. The app needed to adapt quickly to a new digital reality, where connections could only be made virtually.

The challenge was to maintain the core value of fostering connections while transitioning from a primarily face-to-face platform to one that supported virtual interactions. This required not only adding new digital features but also ensuring that the user experience remained seamless and engaging.

02.

A Shift to Virtual Engagement

As social distancing measures and lockdowns were enforced globally, the use of social apps surged, with 75% of users reporting increased usage. Recognizing this opportunity, Victoria transformed into “Let’s Day In”, focusing on enabling users to meet and interact digitally.

Key Features Implemented

Key features were added to enhance the virtual connection experience, such as integrating video conferencing tools and live streaming capabilities, to replicate social interactions digitally.

  1. AI-Powered Matching: the app’s core feature remained the AI-driven matching system, which now played a bigger role in connecting users who could no longer meet in person. The AI considered user interests, age, profession, and other characteristics to provide accurate and meaningful matches.
  2. Social Sharing via Stories: a “stories” system was introduced, allowing users to share short video clips, enhancing engagement and giving a more interactive feel to profiles.
  3. Zoom Integration: with face-to-face meetings off the table, Zoom was integrated into the platform, allowing users to have virtual meetings and maintain a personal connection despite physical separation.
  4. Live Streaming with Bambuser SDK: integrating Bambuser enabled live streaming events within the app, allowing users to attend online events together, such as concerts, talks, or virtual meetups.
  5. Event and Payment System: a payment system was added for virtual event tickets, with future capabilities for in-person events when restrictions eased.
